Corporate and Business Gift Giving Etiquette

Corporate Gift Baskets are one of the best ways a company can strengthen or create new business relationships.  In the business world, it is customary for companies to send gifts to clients, customers, and employees at holiday times or for special occasions.  Corporate or business gifts are a great way to thank your best customers and elevate your status in the business community by promoting good will.  Giving gifts to employees and staff for a "job well done," or to remember their birthday, goes a long way in promoting loyalty and performance. Poorly selected or ill-timed gifts can have unintended consequences.  To avoid embarrassment or an unforeseen breakdown in a business relationship, it is best to keep some basic standards in mind

Some Do's and Don'ts in Corporate Gift Giving

Gift giving should be done only if one is currently doing business with an organization.  Sending a gift while in the bidding process, or in negotiations on a contract may be misinterpreted as an attempt to gain inappropriate influence.  The selection of the type of gift is also important.  Business gifts should never be of a personal nature.  The gift should show genuine thought and sincerity while reflecting the good taste of both the receiver and the sender.  We encourage our clients to avoid alcohol in their gift baskets unless they know the person on a personal basis.  Also make sure that the gourmet food items are appropriate for the recipient.  You wouldn't want to send smoked meats to a vegetarian.

Gifts with Company Logos

Some companies have jackets, hats, sweaters or other articles of clothing imprinted with their company logo.  While some employees may not mind wearing clothing with their employer's logo on it, you may find that clients and customers are insulted by the idea of advertising your company on their clothing.  If you decide to put your logo on a gift, make sure it is not of a personal nature.  Put it on a pen, coffee mug, or something that is small and tasteful.  We offer ribbon imprinted with your company logo to tie the gift.  This will go much further than having them advertise your company.

Employee Gift Giving

There have been numerous studies on employee retention.  All studies concur that employees appreciate, and are loyal to, employers who recognize their efforts or congratulate them on personal milestones.  People enjoy being recognized for birthdays, work anniversaries, exemplary customer service and retirement.  It does not have to be a large or expensive gift.  A small token gift will set you apart from other employers.  It will make them feel special and they'll be telling everyone they know about how you recognize them.  Just be sure you are consistent in employee gift giving.  Do the same for everyone, and do it everytime.  We try to take the hassle out of gift giving.  Send your employee birthday list to us and your budget, and we will make sure all of your employees are remembered on their birthday.

Remember that corporate and business gifts are an excellent way to promote your company and services.  Choosing the right gift will go a long way in making your clients and employees know that you value them.
